Bosch heat pump — tuning and common weak points

Bosch Compress series air-to-water pumps are flexible, but their factory defaults are set for general European use. Estonia's long heating season and low outdoor temperatures call for a review of the curve and defrost logic.

Heating curve and the room sensor's effect

If the system has a room sensor, it starts correcting the curve. A conflict between the two logics (outdoor-temperature curve + room compensation) causes swings and unnecessary starts. We recommend choosing one primary logic and using the other only as a gentle correction.

Defrost cycles on an air-to-water unit

Frequent defrosts in damp 0 to +3 °C weather are normal, but if defrost starts more often than every 40–60 minutes and runs long, it is worth checking airflow resistance and the outdoor unit's placement.

Hot water production

On Bosch units, the hot water target temperature directly affects the compressor's discharge pressure. A lower target can be more economical, but change it only following the manufacturer's instructions and with suitable Legionella protection — check the configuration with an installer.

Frequently asked questions

Is it worth enabling night setback on a Bosch heat pump?+

In an underfloor-heating house, night setback rarely saves anything because the morning catch-up raises the flow temperature. In a radiator-heated house, a small 1–2 °C setback can be beneficial.

How often should the outdoor unit be cleaned?+

We recommend checking the fin cleanliness twice a year, in spring and autumn. Clogged fins reduce airflow and raise consumption.
