The building envelope: where heat actually escapes

Heat pump optimisation delivers results, but the house itself sets the limit. Some envelope improvements are cheap and have an immediate effect.

Quick, cheap fixes

Adding attic insulation, sealing hatches and penetrations, replacing window and door seals. These are typically the fastest-paying improvements.

Larger investments

Facade insulation and window replacement significantly reduce heat loss, but the payback period is long. We recommend planning these alongside other renovation work.

How to find leaks

In cold, windy weather, leaks are noticeable by hand. For a more precise assessment, thermography or an air-tightness test is suitable.

Frequently asked questions

Does fixing the envelope change the heat pump's settings?+

Yes. After insulating, the house needs a lower flow temperature — we recommend reviewing the heating curve again.

Where should I start?+

The attic and air tightness. These typically give the biggest effect for the lowest cost.
