Tuning ΔT and flow rate

ΔT — the temperature difference between flow and return — is the fastest way to assess hydraulic condition. A gap that's too large or too small points to a flow-rate problem.

Healthy ranges

Typically 3–5 K for underfloor heating, 5–8 K for radiators at full load. On a ground-source heat pump's brine side, typically 2–4 K.

What deviations indicate

A large ΔT can indicate too low a flow rate: a clogged filter, partially closed valves, or too slow a circulation pump. A very small ΔT can indicate too high a flow rate or bypass.

These are indicators, not a diagnosis — we recommend logging the readings and having them assessed.

Frequently asked questions

How do I measure ΔT?+

Most units show both temperatures on the control panel. Alternatively, surface sensors on the pipes can be used.

Should I change the circulation pump's speed?+

We recommend doing this together with a specialist, since the wrong flow rate can trigger protective shutdowns.
