Thermia ground-source heat pump — collector and settings

For Thermia ground-source heat pumps, besides the heating curve, the brine circuit's condition matters. An undersized or aged collector lowers the source temperature and therefore efficiency for the whole season.

Brine-side readings

If the brine inlet/outlet difference is consistently greater than 3–5 K, or the inlet temperature drops below zero by season's end, this can indicate an undersized collector or a circulation problem. We recommend logging these readings and having a specialist assess them.

Heating-side settings

A ground-source heat pump's advantage shows at a low flow temperature. Shifting the Thermia curve down by one step and monitoring room temperature over a week is a safe first trial.

Frequently asked questions

Can a ground-source heat pump collector wear out?+

The collector itself is long-lived, but the ground's heat balance can deteriorate if the system is undersized. A low brine temperature at season's end is the indicator.

What is a good brine ΔT?+

Typically 2–4 K. A significantly larger gap can point to too low a flow rate.
