Daikin Altherma — what to set up in an Estonian home

Daikin Altherma units are built around low-temperature heating. If the house has radiator heating and the flow temperature is kept high, a large part of the unit's advantage is lost.

Low-temperature mode in practice

Altherma performs best at a flow temperature of 30–40 °C. If your system needs 50 °C, first check the radiator balancing and the rooms' actual heat demand rather than raising the setpoint.

Hot water cycle and timing

Producing hot water during warmer parts of the day (or during a cheaper tariff period) reduces compressor load. We recommend avoiding hot water production during the coldest night hour, when outdoor air is coldest.

Frequently asked questions

What flow temperature is good for Altherma?+

Typically 28–35 °C for underfloor heating, 40–48 °C with radiators. Every degree lower is estimated to reduce electricity consumption by 2–3%.

Does Altherma work with an old radiator system?+

Yes, but the result depends on radiator surface area. If the flow temperature has to stay above 50 °C constantly, the savings are modest and we recommend reviewing the system.
